Project European integration and Western Balkan is one of three main parts of Mitrovica Youth Program (MYP). Leading organization in implementation of European Integration and Western Balkan module is NGO Fractal (Belgrade). Project is conveyed in partnership with local organization – Centre for Civil Society Development form Mitrovica (CCSD) and Spark from Amsterdam.
This program is consisted of three main parts:
- Interactive lectures
- Academic writing
- Study visit to the Netherlands and Belgium
The goal of module EI&WB is to offer to students of Mitrovica University basic knowledge on EU matters. Therefore, in 2006 and 2007 Fractal has organized lectures on topics such as:
- Law and procedures of the EU
- Economy of the EU
- Policies of the EU
- Relations between EU and Western Balkan countries
Throughout 20 lectures/sessions in row, students are getting more familiar with EU topics. As part of basic program are lectures on topic of academic skills such as critical thinking and writing, writing CV, motivation letter and essays,
self-presentation skills. With this module, we are giving modest but important contribution in development of personal resources of Kosovo youth and therefore we are influencing on development of Kosovo itself, working with youth living and studying there.
Third part of program is known as study visit to the Netherlands and Brussels and is designed for 10 best students of EI&WB (6 participants) and MYP (4 participants). During the one-week visit project participants are visiting European institutions they were learning about within EI&WB module, meeting with EU representatives to whom they can ask direct questions, establishing contacts with students and professors from the Netherlands, getting more familiar with other’s cultures and way of life etc. Main goals of study visit are:
- Encouraging and linking cooperation with academic community in EU (students and professors)
- To develop and improve knowledge on EU and European integration process
- To meet representatives of international institutions that are present in western Balkan, especially in Kosovo
Number of students that are attending the basic program is 25. They are following application procedure announced a few months before the deadline via email, students groups, promotion materials (brochures, leaflets, banners), radio (radio advertisement and quiz on EU topic), peer to peer promotion (see alumni network activities).
Overall goals we plan to accomplish with module “European Integration and Western Balkan” in 2007 :
Raising of awareness, information sharing and acknowledgement of students of Mitrovica University on issues related to EU integration process and regional cooperation.
- Developing academic and organizational skills of Mitrovica University students.
- Building connections among students from Mitrovica University and students from EU Universities
